Europe is rapidly scaling up its artificial intelligence ecosystem — and the numbers speak for themselves. With €200 billion mobilised to accelerate AI development, including €20 billion for up to five AI Gigafactories and €10 billion for AI Factories and supercomputing infrastructures, the European Union aims to establish itself as a global hub for advanced AI innovation.

By 2026, nine new AI-optimised supercomputers will be operational across 17 EU Member States, tripling Europe’s total AI computing capacity. The continent is already home to more than 6,800 AI startups, while large-scale industrial projects like Pharos in Greece mark a new phase in Europe’s digital industrialisation.

Yet, only 13.5% of EU companies have adopted AI tools so far, signalling untapped potential among SMEs and the need for greater investment in digital skills, infrastructure, and trust frameworks.
