Project Type: Horizon 2020 / CSA Duration: 48 months HAEE’s role: Partner
Project's Website

Overview and Aims

Funds are available to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Many islands are engaged in energy transition; however, most of them do not have the experience and expertise to concretely launch investments, access finance and kick start the projects. NESOI aims at filling this gap through a hands-on approach allowing to get the expected financial leverage towards the effective implementation of islands’ energy transition plans. NESOI supports projects at different stages of development, starting from early stage ones requiring a high-level technical & economic assistance, to more advanced ones asking for specific and detailed contributions on various fields (technical, legal, financial). NESOI implements capacity building and coaching activities to ensure awareness-raising and capacity of public authorities’ staff for developing investible projects with the aim to empower Local Communities in a successful pursuit of the energy transition.

Expected Outcomes

NESOI aims at supporting at least sixty European islands in the conception and implementation of projects for renewable energies, energy efficiency, smart grids and energy infrastructures. The beneficiaries of the Facility shall receive activities of technical assistance directly by the members of the consortium; furthermore, 3.1 million Euros shall be allocated to finance complementary activities in situ.

NESOI aims at mobilising more than 100 million Euros of investments by 2023, leading to estimated primary energy savings of 440 GWh/year and a reduction in terms of greenhouse gases of 160,000 kt CO2/year.
