Chart of the Month Vol.43 | "The Vertical Corridor and Greece as Energy Hub" | Powered by Deloitte

The latest edition of HAEE’s Chart of the Month explores Greece’s growing role in Southeast Europe’s natural gas market and the strategic importance of the Vertical Corridor. By examining monthly natural gas imports and exports between January 2025 and March 2026, the analysis highlights how expanding infrastructure and diversified supply routes are strengthening the country’s position within the regional energy landscape.

Natural gas imports have continued to increase, supported by LNG facilities and key entry points such as Sidirokastro, Agia Triada, and the Alexandroupolis FSRU. At the same time, exports have risen significantly, demonstrating Greece’s evolution from a predominantly consumption-oriented market into an increasingly important transit and re-export hub for neighboring countries.

The Vertical Corridor is at the heart of this transformation. Connecting seven countries and offering an estimated transport capacity of 10 bcm per year, it facilitates the flow of gas from global LNG markets to Southeast and Central Europe, supporting diversification efforts and enhancing regional energy security. As interconnections expand and transit volumes grow, Greece is steadily establishing itself as a key pillar of Southeast Europe’s energy architecture.
