The Hellenic Association for Energy Economics is organising the conference entitled "The role of RES and Natural Gas in the New Energy Model of Greece with REPowerEU", on Thursday, 7 July 2022, with physical presences, at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).

With the announcement of REPowerEU by the European Commission, the new plan to rapidly phase out Russian gas and accelerate the green transition is officially launched. It represents a huge opportunity with benefits for the economy, energy security and energy prices, but at the same time, it creates new facts and challenges both in Europe and in Greece.

Energy security and the containment of high prices are at the heart of the EU's strategy. The boost of renewables and the diversification of energy sources, notably with LNG, create the right environment for significant investments in infrastructure and network reinforcement. The energy market is being transformed in the short and long term, with accelerated licensing of renewables and bilateral contracts playing a key role in developments. Greece is being transformed into an energy hub with major projects being implemented or planned, such as the FSRU in Alexandroupolis, the upgrade of Revithoussa and the Greece Egypt Interconnector.

All the above issues will be discussed in detail with the participation of political leaders, energy sector executives and local government representatives.

The conference is held under the auspices of ACCI. The Society for Environment and Cultural Heritage is Strategic Partner

The language of the conference is Greek. For more information about the speakers, the draft agenda and registrations, please see here.
