Dear members and friends, HAEE’s latest Chart of the Month Vol.43 examines the growing significance of the Vertical Corridor and Greece’s expanding role in regional natural gas markets. The analysis of monthly gas flows between January 2025 and March 2026 reveals strong growth in both imports and exports, reflecting the country's increasing importance as an energy gateway for Southeast Europe. Imports reached 9,123.6 GWh in March 2026, representing a 62% increase compared to March 2025, while exports surged by more than 700% over the same period. These trends highlight the impact of LNG infrastructure, strategic interconnections, and diversified supply routes in enhancing Greece’s role within the regional gas network. With seven interconnected countries, two LNG entry points, and a potential transport capacity of 10 bcm annually, the Vertical Corridor is emerging as a critical component of Europe’s energy diversification strategy. The findings demonstrate how Greece is evolving from a destination market into a regional transit hub, contributing to greater energy security, market integration, and supply resilience across Southeast Europe.
