📰 Energy Market News

Editorial: The small pieces of the energy cost puzzle

The Greek government and the energy sector agree that the issue of the energy cost will not be solved through one magic bullet, but more so as a result of multiple smaller factors.

First of all, the problem is primarily an international one. The prices of natural gas remain higher compared to the period before the energy crisis. SE Europe remains isolated relatively to the rest of the continent. Geopolitical "scares" often appear, which temporarily lead to higher prices.

The energy ministry has noted that this year efforts have been made to face the problem. This summer there will be improved coordination between countries in the region, in order to form proper maintenance schedules, improved utilization of existing interconnections and better cooperation in general.

At the same time, a new Task Force has been created by the E.U., which will examine the issue on a long-term basis. SE European countries have asked for funding to support new interconnections but also changes to the algorithm that governs the power markets.

Then, there are the internal issues of the Greek market. In this case, retail is considered important, as the consumers' turn towards stable and dynamic pricing products will lead to lower long-term prices. However, the ministry remains vigilant to take new measures in case things do not improve.

10th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium

The 10th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium came to a successful close, uniting thought leaders, policymakers, innovators, and academics for three days of forward-looking dialogue on the future of energy in Greece, Europe, and beyond.

Celebrating a decade of progress, the 2025 Symposium offered a timely reflection on how far the energy transition has come—and where it must go next. Held under the theme “A Decade of Energy Transition: Adapting for Tomorrow,” the event served not only as a forum for exchange but also as a springboard for the next phase of sustainable energy action.

A standout moment of the opening day was the inaugural Energy Initiative Awards ceremony, introduced to mark HAEE’s 10-year anniversary. Nine awards were presented to pioneering initiatives and actions advancing the transition across critical categories—each one highlighting a key pillar in the journey toward a decarbonized, inclusive energy future. With prominent political leaders in attendance to honor the recipients, the evening underscored a powerful truth: the energy transition is driven not just by policy and technology, but by the people and ideas behind them.

In recap:

3-day discussions
