Our flagship 3-day annual event left an imprint in the energy industry

The 8th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium, organized by the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics on September 27 - 29, 2023, at the French Institute of Athens, successfully concluded its proceedings.

Once more, the Symposium hosted distinguished guests from politics, entrepreneurship, research, and industry, who were engaged in interesting and highly informative discussions about the future of the energy sector and the new conditions emerging in a complex geopolitical environment.

The key outline of the Symposium is that the future of Energy, both at the international and national levels, requires speed, new technologies, a big focus on green transition and the supporting infrastructure, as well as new large-scale investments. The need for consistent support of green policies must be accompanied by a clear decision, which is nothing other than the termination of fossil-fuel subsidies.

📰 Energy Market News

Editorial: Europe to make use of new renewables ahead of winter

One year passed since energy prices took off and reached record levels as a result of the energy crisis and geopolitical developments.

European gas storage is almost full early on, but these sites can only cover about 30% of winter demand. Hence, a lot of nervousness remains in the gas market, since unforeseen events and most of all, winter temperatures, can overturn things and raise prices.

This volatility in natural gas is passed on to the electricity market, where governments took steps to extend consumer protection measures for any eventuality.

Even so, the consumers' biggest ally in the following winter and the ones to come is the large rise in new renewables as a result of European policies set in place after the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

So far results are spectacular in photovoltaics and heat pumps installations, as well as in other technologies. It is notable that Germany installed 7.7 GW of PV in the first seven months of the year against a goal for 9 GW for the entire 2023. The Greek market also moves quickly during the last couple of years.
