The HAEE Energy Initiative Awards returned as a central highlight of the 11th HAEE Energy Transition Symposium, bringing together key figures from across the energy ecosystem to recognize initiatives that are actively shaping the sector’s transformation in Southeast Europe. This year’s edition placed particular emphasis on solutions that combine innovation, execution, and measurable impact across the full energy value chain. Hosted on May 27, 2026, at the National Museum of Natural History Goulandris – GAIA Centre in Athens, the ceremony unfolded in the presence of senior representatives from government, industry, and academia. The awards reflected a sector in transition increasingly defined by collaboration, technological advancement, and the scaling of real-world solutions. The most prominent distinction, Energy Initiative of the Year, was awarded to IPTO for its initiative “Ariadne Interconnection”, recognized for its contribution to reinforcing electricity infrastructure and improving regional energy connectivity. The award was presented by Kostas Andriosopoulos, Affiliated Professor of Finance & Energy Management, Director of the HELLENiQ ENERGY Center for Sustainability and Energy at Alba Graduate Business School, and CEO of Akuo Energy Greece. In the category Pioneering Innovation & Digital Transformation in Energy, EKO ABEE, Member of HELLENiQ ENERGY, was recognized for its initiative “New EKO App: A comprehensive digital experience for the modern driver”, highlighting the growing integration of digital services within the energy and mobility space. The award was presented by Dimitris Fourlaris, Vice-President of RAAEY. The Banking Transformation for the Future award was presented to the National Bank of Greece for its initiative “Transforming Banking to Shape the Future of Energy”, underlining the increasingly active role of the financial sector in enabling and accelerating the energy transition. The award was presented by Prof. George Ioannou of the Athens University of Economics and Business and Board Member of HAEE. In Impactful Energy Solutions, Faria Renewables was distinguished for its initiative “FARIA GALANI BESS: Powering Energy Transition”, which showcases the strategic importance of energy storage in enabling renewable penetration and grid flexibility. The award was presented by Prof. Spiros Papaefthimiou, President of HAEE. The Environmental & Social Sustainability Excellence award went to ENGAIA for its initiative “Anatolia College / Anatolia American University: Innovative Green Transition through Virtual Net Metering”, illustrating how educational institutions can actively contribute to decentralized and socially embedded energy solutions. The award was presented by Niki Kerameus, Minister of Labour and Social Security. In Energy Market Intelligence & Investment Impact, Deloitte was recognized for its initiative “Energy, Resilience & Sustainability Intelligence: Driving Value through Climate Action”, reflecting the growing importance of data-driven insight in guiding investment and policy decisions. The award was presented by Dimitris Kairidis, Member of the Hellenic Parliament. The Energy Security & Infrastructure Resilience award was presented to ECO Hellas for its initiative “BIOH2VAP”, which contributes to advancing alternative fuels and strengthening long-term energy system resilience. The award was presented by Edward C. Wingenbach, President of the American College of Greece (ACG). Finally, the Excellence in Local Green Initiatives and Sustainable Management award was presented to Vasilis Xipolitas, Mayor of Kifissia, in recognition of his leadership in advancing urban climate resilience and sustainable local governance, positioning the municipality as a reference point for climate-focused transformation. The award was presented by Prof. Konstantinos Aravossis, UNESCO Chairholder on Green Innovation and Circular Economy, NTUA Vice President, and Chairman of RAAEY.
